This Is Death Valley is a deathcore band from Bowmanville, Ontario, and a good group of honest dudes who've worked fucking hard to get where they are. Constant shows, mini-tours and practice all lead up to their release of "We Are The Destroyer," a six-song ep that kicks the shit out of you first, then leaves you wanting to smash everything and fuck shit up. Topped with a tremendous live appearance that's always filled with pits and fists, TIDV is 100% the band to check out if you're into metal/deathcore. I can't much speak from experience when I talk about metal, no less deathcore, I've always listened more to grind, punk and hardcore, but TIDV sticks out for sure... and they're from fucking Bowmanville. If they're coming anywhere near a town near you.. and you seriously just want to get smashed, fuck some shit up, get some aggression and frustration out.. go to one of their shows. You won't be disappointed. The guys are all chill, cool dudes too, so say hi.

End Of An Era: Punk in Oshawa

People often tell me punk is dead, yet here in my city, and the surrounding areas, despite the all-ages clubs being shut-down, and bands going on hiatus, or effectively breaking up, there's still a small community. This community is growing among people both older and younger, and this is what punk is. It's that annoying std that no matter how many creams you use, always seems to come back, or so it goes. We're a rash, and we are always going to come back.

In the last weekend a lone, I've witnessed two awesome concerts, while another went on in another area of the city. I read an inspiring article that finally recognizes the punk scene for what it is, and what the bands are trying to do. In the last few months, I've heard, and seen more hard work from the some of the local bands than I have in years, and it feels fucking great. The One-Eyed Muskrats, Strange Peaks, Rebel Scum,The Corporate Life,Their Decline Is Ours,, all great bands, working relentlessly to spark any sort of an interest. From The Gallowsto new bands, and now End Of An Era: Oshawa Punk, a local listing on facebook that also promotes bands, shows and hoping soon to be a radio station run by Zach Weaver (Myself) of Rebel Scum, & Justin Coupland of The Corporate Life proves punk is not dead in Oshawa, and that there is still an interest.

When the bodies in The Diezel Room started colliding against one another you could feel the floor buckle, threatening to send us all crashing down onto the patrons of The Atria. While it may have upset the downstairs show a bit I suspect few of the crowd members moshing to Strange Peaks' surf-inflected punk tunes would have taken much notice. They were far too busy shouting and sweating along as Peaks singer Brandon MacDonald peeled a sticky Minor Threat shirt from his back and wrapped his microphone cord around his neck.

Less than 24 hours later in the outskirts of Newcastle hardcore/political punk band The Corporate Life razed through a cover of a Propagandhi song. The concrete floor of Wie Gehts Amigo didn't move and the pit consisted of only two people but a quick scan of the faces in the crowd told you that the energy was still there, bridling underneath. More Minor Threat patches sewn onto shorts. With a pay what you can cover on Friday's show and Saturday's gig being all ages, it seems like Ian MacKaye's got a bit of an influence building in the Oshawa area.

Strange Peaks, The Corporate Life, and Rebel Scum are three of the relatively-new bands helping to re-establish a punk scene in an area where the importance of all ages shows has been largely forgotten. Like Peaks' MacDonald Rebel Scum singer Zach Weaver is not afraid to literally throw himself into the pit, regardless of whether or not he may be mid-verse. Loud, messy, fast, and physical - you might not understand the words but the message is clear. In a scene notoriously reticent, it's far more common to see seated audiences with their hands fiercely gripping their drinks than it is to see anyone dancing. At both punk shows this weekend I witnessed shoving, skanking, slamming, sing-alongs, and sweaty hugs, often all at the same time.

Waiting in the rain at a dark bus stop in Newcastle following Saturday's show I ran into three teenage punk girls who had just left as well. As I handed them flyers for Soundtracked 14 they nodded in acknowledgment at the names Holy Mount and The Bonedevil. "Abel's in that band, right?" the one girl asked.

Two stops after we got on the bus a dozen half-dressed girls and jocks boarded, heading from Bowmanville to Oshawa to go clubbing at Riley's. Their conversations were riddled with such gems as "I actually did a black girl once" and "Malibu's a great kisser, a great cuddler, and she's got nice tits." As the punk girls filed past them to leave the jocks laughed hysterically and rushed to the window with their cell phones, trying to get photos of the one girl's three-inch mohawk.

Is there a need for a scene? A place for youth who care more about politics than hockey to come together and hug, shout, and sweat in alliance for a couple hours? Where flyers are conversation-starters and band names are like passwords? Apparently, now just as much as ever.

For the past few years folk-country has been the overwhelming trend in the local scene, likely due to its revival and championing in Toronto roughly four to five years ago. We at Broken Arts crave variety, though, so we're thrilled to witness the rebirth of the youth punk movement. As high school lets out for the summer and the kids kick their way into the spotlight our only question now is... where are all the hip-hop kids hiding?

First real post in months, that Attake 7" was really just a tester. Anyways, I was emailed months and months ago, actually last April by the singer of a band called 'Korova,'asking me to upload their album 'Another Happy Customer'... But, due to a computer crash, I was outta luck for uploading anything for a few months, and by the time I got back I had forgotten completely about this band, and the fact they had asked me to put the album on the blog. Anyways, they're a hardcore band from Birmingham, Alabama, and in the singers words expressed in the email, "I think we sound like Ceremony crossed with Cult Ritual, but the recording is pretty slick compared to a lot of underground hardcore coming out right now. Really, we just rip off Black Flag really hard." Either way, these guys rip and sound great, so check the album out.

Bob and the Sagets were the prequel to The Menzingers. They're from Scranton, California, and they sound amazing.
I've been through a big ska phase, and this has always been one to come back to. There's no horns, which I think is probably a good thing because they sound perfect the way they are.

The Discocks - Long Live Oi!

Oi! No, but seriously. I've been listening to a shitton of sludge/crusty/anarcho shit for the last little while and then came across this old album in my library. I'd just like to bring it back to the fast, fun, furious punk rock of the early(ish) days.

The Discocks were a Pogo-Punk/Oi! group from Japan playing a lot of the typical (yet really fun) pogo-punk music that's came/coming out of places like Korea, China, Japan so on and so forth. These guys are fucking great to drink a few beers to, or even if you're simply not paying attention and you need background noise.

Honestly, this cd makes me want to put on my boots and smash shit, not even because it's angry, but because it's so fucking punk rock.

Just listen, its fun. It's also got some Business covers.

Gainesville’s Religious as Fuck explode with a blast of fast, furious, gnarly hardcore thrash! Members of ASSHOLEPARADE, SAVAGE BREWTALITY, and DEAD FRIENDS...

This sounds like alot of the "beardcore" bands coming out of Gainesville like Asshole Parade, American Cheeseburger and shit. Fast loud short chaos. It's pretty surprisingly good. This is a split with a band called Mehkago N.T., but they have two songs on it which are decent but not worth me going back to upload a new file.

The point is, one of those bands you like to listen to when you're pissed, have a headache and want to make it worse.

A prominent South Carolina anarcho crust punk band, basically, this is Antischisms discography, self-titled. The album is 35 songs long and is pretty much fucking amazing the whole way through. More or less, it never slows down and it if does, it drags it out into a blistering short finish. It's seriously a crazy album, a few versions of songs without Lyz (female vocalist, great voice), and a few live songs I think may have been recorded in Peterborough, Ontario, close to wear we live .Band members went on to play in bands such as; In/Humanity, Initial State, .fuckingcom, Thank God, Damad and etc.

A//Political was active during the mid to late 90s. Their style is similar to that of many "peace punk" bands from the early 1980s and was heavily influenced by anarcho-punk bands like Crass and Conflict. Members were involved in the Crasshole Collective and the Anarcho-Punk Federation (A.P.F.). Many members were in other local punk bands such as Coexist, Flag Fallen and U.S. War Commission. Stas (vocals) also sang for Boston area anarcho-punk band, Krema-1.

Similar to bands like Crass who had shitty shitty songs, only somehow alot of these songs are surprisingly pretty catchy. Who Will Build the Roads, It's Not About Politics It's About Life, and You Are What You Consume are probably my favourite songs. I actually even used You Are What You Consume as the title of my other blog.

So this is two of their albums.

The Crasshole Collective also doubled as a record label. While they were mainly responsible for releasing their first album, "Planting the Seeds of Revolution," on tape and their 7" ep, "Propaganda by Deed" they also produced at least two compilation tapes of various politically minded bands and a tape by Flag Fallen. The musical caliber of the comp tapes varied wildly because recording quality or musical talent were not used as filter criteria. Instead, the message of the bands was the focus.
Crasshole also produced the little known and poorly recorded debut album from the now well known folk-punk band Against Me!. Only a handful of the first run were sold. (If anyone wants that Against Me! debut album, comment on this entry and I can upload it)

That pretty much describes this band, even though they're kinda catchy and good. Very political lyrics. Focus more on what they're saying/singing, it's pretty smart and clever.

Corporation is a skacore/punk band from Ontario. They take some elements from ska and combine it with fast punk.
In December 2006, the band released their first, completely D.I.Y. CD: “A New Pope”. Containing 9 tracks, and crowd favourites such as “Channel 39”, “My Choice” and “Invasion Of The Walmartians”, it showed the raw energy and potential that Corporation could wield. Corporation released their new full-length album, titled “The Corporation Strikes Back”. Showcasing all new songs such as “Charon Doesn’t Have Change For Million Dollar Bills”, “Guantanamo Bay”, and “Dead At The Age Of 18”. It is evident that they have upped the ante, reaching new levels of energy and creativity, all while maintaining to keep D.I.Y. productions.

This isn't some big corporate band. I won't upload their newest album"The Return of Corporation" because I want you to BUY it. I only uploaded the first two albums to get people interested in the band, and to see if they like what they hear. Anna Roland - Abandoned Cities

I really, really like this album.. it's a riot-folk/folky-blues/punky album filled to the brim with acoustic resistance.. I love the lyrics, Anna has a beautiful voice, her backup band is brilliant and her guitar playing is just as well. I fell in love with this album and love Anna Roland as a singer/songwriter... she writes poetically yet not all obscure and 'indie' .. she's very blatant with her message, but not in a brutally upfront way..

This album is very catchy, I love the speed and tempo of the songs, the lyrics, the guitar, the backup band, everything about it is great.. notable tracks include 'Concrete,' 'The System Ain't Gunna Change Itself' and 'Up By Mill Creek.'

I'd recommend this to anybody who's into the folky-punk/acoustic stuff.. or anyone looking to get into it, she's a very easy listen not easy in such a way she would be boring, its the type of album that you can't help but tap your feet to

Hey all... long ass night last night, tired and hungover as fuck but still feel as though I should throw a new album up here... in anycase, this is a little band I discovered through Myspace, yes, myspace, one of the members added me a few years back and asked me to check them out, no doubt I did.. with a name like Annihilation it intrigued me immediately..

In any case, they are now defunct (I think?) or operating under another name, lost contact with them a while back, but here's a few songs from a demo without a name, and it includes a Broken Bones cover (Decapitated)... it's a total uk82/raw punk attack.. just plain awesome. This is also for all of you who thought younger kids couldn't rip instruments.. because these kids fucking RIP.

Thrashy, crusty hardcore punk... I fucking love this demo, released in 2008 by the band Teargas. This shit seriously rips, 'Dark Half' is probably my favourite track on the demo, but, regardless, the whole fucking thing kicks a serious ton of ass. I recommend downloading it if you like your crust hard and fast ;)

ALSO! This demo is rather high quality for a demo, it's not as shitty as some crust recordings. Just thought i'd put it out there, since a lot of people seem to get turned off at the quality, specially with demo tapes.

A thrashcore demo tape by... my brothers band actually, from Vancouver BC although originated in Oshawa/Bowmanville, Ontario, my hometowns. This demo is a few years old and doesn't contain any vocals, but I'd still recommend its download purely for the instrumental, it's good for skateboarding and such. It's a heavy, heavy mix between thrash, punk and metal. Enjoy.

Blackjacket - Acoustic EP

Blackjacket's a local band from Oshawa, Ontario. Oshawa's a slum of shit. Beautiful stuff grows out of shit.
Blackjacket is a highly political punk band, and their music is actually audible, intelligent, and catchy (but not fruity). I highly suggest listening to this band.
The download is an acoustic live album where they covered some of their other songs, and it's pretty damn good. If you like what you hear, buy their full albums either from interpunk or through their myspace.
Hell, even if you don't like their music, check out their website and read their blogs and stuff oh- wait-nevermind-its-down-but-ill-leave-the-link-there-anyway.

Thrashington D.C. - To Live and Die in BMO

To be honest, the first time I listened to this cd I never payed much attention to it, but a month or two ago I gave it a real good listen over, and determined that it's most definitely one of my favourite thrash/punk/hardcore CD's of all time. Released in 2007 on La FÚe Verte, the most notable tracks for me are 'Kill My Boss,' 'Untrue Til Death,' and the Beastie Boys cover 'Egg Raid on Mojo' .. the cd seriously doesn't slow down once in intensity, ripping through all 16 songs in seventeen minutes.

In thrash we get trashed!

This album is one of my two favourite splits, along with the Acrid / Left For Dead split. A notable track is My Country 'tis Of Thy People You're Dying, which might come up as "Track 9" when you download it. It's a cover of Buffy Sainte-Marie's song. It's 9 minutes long, it never slows down, and I never really get bored of it. Against Empire is fucking sweet too though don't get me wrong.

Without a doubt one of my favourite crust, black metal, whatever the fuck you want to define them as band. Introduced to be through a split ep between Iskra and Against Empire (Another of my favourites), the bands new cd Bureval is an absolute compilation of all their previous albums talent, angry, fury and lyrical genius poured into one cd.

I really don't have any words to describe the pure joy I got out of this album, just fucking download it and listen to it yourself. VERY worth it.

Piss Shit Fuck was a punk band from the United States formed in 1999, melding hardcore, thrash, crust, doom, and even a little crack rock steady in a grimy, raw mix. The band has included former members of Choking Victim and released records on Tent City Records.

This upload includes Use Your Delusion and their part on When The Bombs Drop, which is a complilation album I might up sometime. Skwert was in this band I'm pretty sure, and he went on to drum in Choking Victim.
